WHAT
IS BUSHIDOKAN KARATE
The
Bushidokan Art is a combination of Okinawan Karate, Judo,
and Jijitsu, with the primary emphasis on Karate. The Karate
portion of Bushidokan's training is quite similar to Shorin-ryu-
definitely Okinawan in Ancestry. Bushidokan is best suited
for these interested in effective street self-defense, and tournament
fighting.. For more info please visit the founder of Bushidokan
- Jim 'Ronin' Harrison's site
What is Judo?
It is a
modern martial art and combat sport created in Japan in
1882' by Dr. Kano Jigoro. It's most prominent feature
is to either throw or takedown one's opponent to the ground,
immobilize or other wise subdue one's opponent with a
grappling maneuver, or force an opponent toSubmit by joint
locking or by executing a strangle hold or choke. Strikes
and thrusts by hands and feet as well as weapons defences
are a part of Judo, but only in pre-arranged form ( Kata
) and are not allowed in Judo competition or free practice
( Randori ).

Michael Hoxie started his martial arts training
back in 1992' at the Spokane Karate Center. He trained
under Matt David a 6th degree black belt in Kenpo
Karate under Ed Parker. Who later changed
his training from Kenpo to Bushidokan Karate. Matt
was a Heavy weight Golden Gloves Champion before
becoming a martial artist. Michael also did several
seminars with Jim "Ronin" Harrison (the
founder of Bushidokan)
and fought one of his tough black belts for a Washington
State Kickboxing Title. Also he trained in Kickboxing
under Marc Costello. ( Mark was ranked 1# in the
world in Kickboxing for just over 5 years under
the sanctioning of the PKA and was the Middle Weight
Champion..) Michael gained a lot of respect for
these full-contact kickboxing fighters and matches
he did. He learned a lot on how to put the full-contact
into his Karate back ground.
Michael
has been a black belt since 1997' and is still learning
everyday of his life how to be the best martial
artist possible and passes on all his learning's
to his students every day of his life.

Victor A. Caputo first
started his judo training at the age of eight,
back in 1960 with Seiki Kan Dojo. Seiki Kan was
the first judo club in Spokane which was originally
established in December
1938
under head instructor Takeo Horiuchi. A year later
in 1961 due to unforeseen circumstances Mr. Caputo
left Seiki Kan, but later rejoined Seiki Kan in
1965 under Takeo's younger brother Kegi Horiuchi.
Mr. Caputo remained with Seiki Kan until
1976,
at which time Richard Yamamoto was Seiki Kan's
head instructor. Mr. Caputo was out of judo for
several years due to a family and personal commitments.
In 1995 Mr. Caputo started Tang Soo Do, a Korean
Martial Art, under Master Instructor Barry January,
and also got back into Judo. Later he joined Robey
Reed's Judo and Karate club "Seihoku Budokai,"
and then in 2006 opened his own Judo club- "
New Haven judo Club, " which was registered
with the United States Judo Association, and under
the auspices of the head instructors Robey Reed
and Darren Barnes. Mr. Caputo holds Black Belts
in both Tang Soo Do and Kodokan Judo.
